A new endeavor with bumps along the way

May 22, 2010

As all new endeavors go, there’s bound to be a couple bumps in the road.  The initial Health Department inspection this week did not go as planned.  PPC was sent back into fabrication for a couple updates to the cart.  The final – final inspection is now set for Monday.  If all goes as planned the Grand Opening will now be May 29th.  Fingers Crossed!

It’s been a little trying getting this business up off the ground.  From the time last year, sitting on the curb at Eastern Market conjuring up the “pierogi idea” with a friend until today – I would have never thought it would take the amount of time and effort (and of course finances) that it took to get here.  Of course when the idea popped into our naïve brains we thought, “How hard could it be?”  Well, if only I knew.  Basically, my journey so far has been an education that was earned through trial and error.  I’m beginning to understand why many start-ups go through the Franchise Business Model.  It makes perfect sense -  – you, the franchise buyer are purchasing the business model minus the headache and blunders it took to get there.  Genius!  Perhaps when the People’s Pierogi Collective is up and running like a well oiled machine, franchising could be in the future.  Until then, back to the grindstone of the climb.

I thought I would include a few more work in progress pics of the cart.  I should have the final cart posting this weekend – - Graphics and all!

Wow! The cart looks great. Sorry I’m going to miss the grand opening. Going to be in North Carolina visiting my sister and my new niece! Good luck. Can’t wait to taste one of your delicious pierogis!
